国家主席习近平5月19日通过视频连线，同俄罗斯总统普京共同见证两国核能合作项目——田湾核电站和徐大堡核电站开工仪式。习近平指出，今年是《中俄睦邻友好合作条约》签署20周年，他同普京总统商定，将在更高水平、更广领域、更深层次推进双边关系向前发展。

President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on May 19 witnessed the ground-breaking ceremony of a bilateral nuclear energy cooperation project, Tianwan nuclear power plant and Xudapu nuclear power plant, via video link. Noting that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, Xi said that he and President Putin have agreed to advance the development of bilateral relations to higher and deeper levels and expand the ties to broader fields.

我国将开展婚姻登记和离婚登记“跨省通办”试点，让不断增长的异地居住人口省去了奔波的麻烦。5月19日，民政部宣布，将在辽宁、山东、广东、重庆、四川实施“跨省通办”试点，试点期限为2年，自2021年6月1日起至2023年5月31日止。

The pilot program will be first introduced in Liaoning, Shandong, Guangdong, Chongqing and Sichuan, among other provincial-level regions, running from June 1, 2021 to May 31, 2023, the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) announced Wednesday.

教育部5月17日召开新闻发布会，介绍《民办教育促进法实施条例》有关情况。数据显示，2020年，全国共有民办学校18.67万所，占全国各级各类学校总数的比例超过1/3；在校生5564余万人，占比接近1/5。

China has 186,700 private schools as of 2020, accounting for more than one-third of all Chinese educational institutions, the Ministry of Education said on May 17. China's private schools educated over 55.64 million students last year, with that figure accounting for nearly one-fifth of all students in China, the ministry said at a press conference on the revised regulations promoting the development of the country's private education sector.

截至今年3月，南水北调工程已累计向北方地区调水400多亿立方米。东线、中线一期主体工程建成通水以来，直接受益人口达1.2亿多人，供水到达40多个大中型城市，同时助力东线、中线沿线河湖生态修复。

As of March, the South-to-North Water Diversion Project had transferred over 40 billion cubic meters of water to the northern areas. More than 120 million people had directly benefited from the project since the first phase of its eastern and middle routes began supplying water. More than 40 big and medium-sized cities received water from the project, which has also helped ecological restoration of rivers and lakes along its eastern and middle routes.

国家航天局宣布，北京时间5月15日7时18分，我国天问一号火星探测器携祝融号火星车成功着陆于火星北半球乌托邦平原南部预选着陆区，实现了我国首次地外行星着陆。

China's Tianwen 1 Mars probe streaked down through the Martian sky on May 15, becoming the country's first probe to land on a planet other than Earth. The lander, carrying a Mars rover, touched down at its pre-selected landing area in the southern part of Utopia Planitia, a vast plain on the northern hemisphere of Mars, at 7:18 a.m. (Beijing Time), the China National Space Administration announced.
